There's quite a few posts every day on r/programming about some new amazing technology, and most programming languages have their own subreddits where you can stay up-to-date on what's new for that language.įor programming languages, I'm really excited about Nimrod. I actually pick up on a lot of new tech just watching the large programming subreddits. What does everyone else think? (I'm more interested in input/a discussion here, not one specific answer).

What about for application development? I see the core languages like Java, C, and C++ are still in great use, but I haven't seen much about technologies that are stepping up to replace those/make their own name in the market. Are those the "bleeding edge" technologies right now, with the core technology being more PHP? Are there other, even newer technologies that are gaining popularity? I see a lot about web development, a lot having to do with Javascript, node.js, python, and rails. I realize that for someone just learning to program that simply learning is far more important than what you learn, but for my own research I am just curious what those technologies are.

I was reading "The Passionate Programmer" from The Pragmatic Programmer series (it was a little ahead of where I am, but I enjoy those types of books anyways), and he talks about for the sake of finding jobs it is often worth keeping up to date on the "bleeding edge" technologies.
